Do you have a story idea you’d like to see turned into a short play? The Theatre Workshop of Owensboro (TWO) will soon be accepting original scripts for its annual Summer Shorts one-act play festival. Original scripts can submitted until March 16.

The festival accepts play submissions from around the world, and they go into production this summer. Submissions will be accepted from February 1 to March 16. All scripts will be evaluated anonymously by a panel of judges with a handful selected to be presented this summer.

Playwrights can submit up to two original works for a fee of $20 each. The plays must be 25 pages long at most, feature 5 or fewer characters, and be authentic in every sense.

The organization has the following rules for submissions:

  • 20 pages maximum
  • 10-12 minute duration
  • Submit in standard play script format
  • Do not include your name on the manuscript. Use a separate cover sheet for name/contact information.

TWO will award $500 for the best overall play and $250 for the audience favorite, and one play can win both awards.

For more information or to submit a script, visit the TWO website here.

The RiverPark Center first organized the event in the 1990s utilizing all royalty plays. After a dormant phase, TWO asked the RiverPark for their graces and transformed the festival into what it is today. TWO has operated the festival for more than a decade.
