The 35th Annual Lewisport Heritage Festival kicks off this afternoon and runs through Saturday night. In addition to food, games, and rides, there will be a wide range of activities including live music from popular local artists and pageants, a tractor pull, a pet show, a car cruise-in, and a talent contest. The festival will wrap up with a fireworks show Saturday night.
All of Thursday’s events take place at Chapman Park. The festival opens at 5:30 p.m. with Mayor Chad Gregory giving opening remarks followed by a flag ceremony by Hancock County VFW Post 5186.
The Heritage Festival Pageant (Princess, Miss Teen, and Miss Lewisport divisions) begins at 6 p.m. and rides open at 6:30. Live music by Possum Pickers will run from 7:30-9:30 p.m.
All events on Friday will also be at Chapman Park. Rides open at 5 p.m. and the Heritage Festival Pageant (Tiny Miss/Mister, Little Miss/Mister, and Junior Miss divisions) begins at 6. Live entertainment will be provided by Dan Hall and the Blackford Creek Band from 7-10 p.m.
On Saturday, a 5k run/walk begins at 8 a.m. at the corner of 4th and Market streets. The Sunshine Circle Homemakers Breakfast will run from 8-10 a.m. at the Lewisport Community Center. A baby pageant and kids games begin at 9 a.m. at Chapman Park. An antique tractor pull will be held at the Community Center at 10 a.m., followed by an antique tractor show/drive starting at 11.
Later at Chapman Park, the pet show begins at 3 p.m., with a craft show and a car show/cruise-in both starting at 4. The talent contest begins at 6:15 p.m.
The Josh Merritt Band will play from 4-6 p.m. and Cody Lohden will play from 7:30-10 p.m. Fireworks will begin at 9 p.m.
