The Corvette Lovers Vette Club of Owensboro will host its annual car show at Yellow Creek Park on Saturday, showcasing hundreds of vehicles from across the region. The event, open to all makes and models, features judged competitions, food vendors, music, and a patriotic theme in honor of the summer season.
Now in its 13th year, the show has grown into a staple event for the Corvette Club and car enthusiasts alike. On-site registration is $20 per vehicle and will be open from 8 to 11 a.m. Awards will be presented at 2 p.m.
“We’re hoping to have around 250 to 300 cars this year,” said Tena Frazier, president of the Corvette Lovers Vette Club. “Last year was our biggest turnout ever with 287 cars. The weather in July can go either way, but when it’s nice, people really show up.”
The club’s first car show was held in 2012 after taking over the event from the Thunderbird Club, which had previously hosted an annual show at Yellow Creek Park.
“They were ready to pass it on, and we were excited to continue the tradition,” Frazier said. “Yellow Creek is a beautiful setting for a show like this, and we’ve been lucky to work closely with the Daviess County Parks Department ever since.”
Vehicles entered in the show are judged by a group of experienced car enthusiasts from a Corvette club in Madisonville. The panel uses a detailed scoring system that includes paint quality, straight lines, cleanliness, and overall presentation.
“They’ve been judging for years and know exactly what to look for,” Frazier said. “We trust them to be fair and consistent.”
Alongside the rows of gleaming cars, this year’s event will offer a wide variety of food and drink options. Ole South Barbecue will serve pulled pork, brisket, burgers, fries, and drinks. The Cottage will provide breakfast sandwiches, cinnamon rolls, muffins, and desserts. Other food items, including lemonade shake-ups, hot dogs, roasted peanuts, and shaved ice, will also be available.
“July 19 tends to be the hottest weekend of the year, so we always try to keep people cool,” Frazier said. “One of our club’s favorite traditions is handing out frozen washcloths from a golf cart throughout the day. And we offer free bottled water to all participants.”
DJ Larry Hogan of Songbird Entertainment will return to provide music and announcements throughout the event. A photo vendor will also be on-site to capture each car as it enters the park, with souvenir prints available for purchase.
This year’s show is themed “All-American,” with U.S. flags remaining up throughout the park and patriotic-themed trophies for winners. Select choice award recipients will also receive American flags.
For club members, the show represents more than just a day of cars and competition.
“We love our cars, and we know how much work goes into keeping them looking their best,” Frazier said. “But more than that, it’s about the stories — people reconnecting with vehicles from their past or building something they’ve dreamed of. It brings the community together in a special way.”
Spectators are welcome to attend for free. Organizers encourage the public to stop by, enjoy the cars, grab lunch, and support the local vendors.
“Even if you’re not entering a vehicle, just come walk around,” Frazier said. “There’s something for everyone.”
