The Disaster Recovery Center in McLean County has relocated, and the deadline to apply for federal disaster assistance is nearing. The center aims to assist those recovering from the severe storms, straight-line winds, flooding, landslides, and mudslides that struck the region in April.

The recovery center is now located at the McLean County Community and Senior Citizen Center, 875 Walnut Street. It is open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday and is closed on Sunday. No appointment is necessary.

The center offers in-person support where you can apply for FEMA assistance, learn the status of your FEMA application, understand the letters you get from FEMA, and get referrals to agencies that may offer other assistance. The U.S. Small Business Administration representatives and resources from the Commonwealth are also available at the Disaster Recovery Centers to assist you, according to FEMA.

The deadline to apply for assistance is July 25.

Those needing assistance do not have to visit a recovery center to apply. Applications can also be submitted online at DisasterAssistance.gov, through the FEMA app, or by calling 800-621-3362. Those who use a relay service such as Video Relay Service (VRS) or captioned telephone should provide FEMA with the number for that service.

To apply, residents should be prepared to provide:

  • A current phone number
  • The address of the damaged property and their current address
  • Social Security number
  • A general list of damage and losses
  • Banking information for direct deposit
  • Insurance details, including the policy number or agent name

To find other Disaster Recovery Center locations, visit fema.gov/drc or text “DRC” and your ZIP code to 43362.
