For the first time in its 50-year history, Windy Hollow Speedway will host the American Sprint Car Series (ASCS) — bringing national attention and high-octane racing to Owensboro this Friday. Organizers say the event is expected to draw 20-24 of the nation’s top winged sprint cars, just days before the prestigious Knoxville Nationals.

“This event is going to put Windy Hollow on the map,” said track promoter Trevor Hutchins. “With all the renovations we’ve made, we look forward to the opportunity to put our track on the worldwide stage and put on a show never before seen at Windy Hollow Speedway.”

Friday’s race will be the first ASCS stop ever at Windy Hollow and the first winged sprint car touring event at the track since 1997. It will also be the first Windy Hollow event to stream live on DIRTVision, making it accessible to fans across the country.

The 3/8-mile dirt oval underwent significant upgrades this offseason, including a new retaining wall, improved drainage in the infield, and increased banking in the corners. The series was originally scheduled to race in May, but weather pushed the debut to this week.

“This weekend’s stop in Owensboro is a great final tune-up before Knoxville,” said current series points leader Sam Hafertepe Jr.

In addition to the sprint cars, the Friday night card will feature a $1,000-to-win CRUSA Street Stock race sponsored by Kelley Trucking, along with Bombers, Crown Vics, and Mini Stocks. An open practice is scheduled for Thursday from 6:30-9:30 p.m. for all dirt racing classes.

The action continues Saturday at Windy Hollow Dragway with the Summer Showdown WDRA Summit Sportsman Bracket Racing and the 2025 debut of the Worldwide Outlaw Gassers.

Tickets are available online here and will also be available at the gate on race day.
