An Owensboro man was one of three people killed Saturday evening in a head-on collision in Breckinridge County, according to Kentucky State Police.

According to KSP, the crash occurred at approximately 5:10 p.m. along the 13000 block of KY 261.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Joseph Maynard, 48, of Owensboro, was operating a Ford F-150 southbound on KY 261 when, for unknown reasons, he crossed the center line and struck a Chevrolet Silverado truck head-on. Maynard was pronounced dead at the scene by the Breckinridge County Coroner’s Office.

The crash also claimed the lives of the Silverado’s driver, 22-year-old Hunter Lyons, and a 1-year-old juvenile passenger. Both were also pronounced dead at the scene by the Breckinridge County Coroner’s Office.

An adult female passenger in Lyons’ vehicle was flown to the University of Louisville Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to KSP.

The crash shut down KY 261 for several hours as investigators worked to reconstruct the collision. The cause remains under investigation.

Responding agencies included the Breckinridge County Sheriff’s Office, Breckinridge County EMS, Hardinsburg and Fordsville fire departments, and the Breckinridge County Coroner’s Office.
