Bertha Ann Wathen, 87, of Owensboro, KY, passed away on July 29, 2025. She was born on August 26, 1937, to the late Ulysses and Minnie (Drake) Reed.
Bertha had a deep love for animals and gardening. She took great pride in her flower garden and found joy dancing at the Senior Center.
Those left to cherish Bertha’s memory include her children, Tony (Angela) Wathen, Vern (Kelly) Wathen; her grandchildren, Taylor, Logan, Zach, Shaylee, Luke, and Gage; her great-grandchildren, Gauge, Conner, Charleigh, Henry, and one on the way, and her special friends, Maudie Browning and Sandy Price.
In addition to her parents, Bertha is preceded in death by her husband, James E. Wathen; her granddaughter, Savanah Lee Wathen, and her siblings, Marjorie Johnson, Catherine “Alice” Burden and Robert “Buck” Reed.
Services will be held at 12:00 p.m., on Friday, August 1, 2025, at Saint Stephen Cathedral, with Father Daniel Dillard presiding. Friends and family are invited to visitation, at Haley McGinnis Funeral Home and Crematory, on Friday, August 1, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of charitable donations made payable to Saving Animals in Need Together (SAINT) at 117 East 18th Street, Unit 192, Owensboro, KY 42303. Envelopes will be made available at the funeral home.
