Empty Bowls of Owensboro is now accepting applications from local organizations hoping to benefit from its 20th annual dinner and silent auction. The grassroots nonprofit, founded in 2005 to fight food insecurity in Daviess County, will select at least one recipient to receive proceeds from this year’s event, set for November 6 at the RiverPark Center.

This year marks a major milestone for Empty Bowls, which was launched locally by Brescia University art professor Stephen Driver after he was inspired by similar programs in other cities. Over the past two decades, the annual dinner has become a community tradition supporting local efforts to address the root causes of hunger.

Applications to be the beneficiary organization will be accepted through August 31 and are open to Daviess County organizations working to combat hunger through sustainable solutions, education, community outreach, or innovative programming. The online application can be found at eboky.org/application.

A silent auction will again accompany the event. Local individuals and businesses interested in donating themed baskets or items can contact the committee at [email protected]. All contributions are tax-deductible, and sponsorship opportunities are also available at eboky.org/sponsorships.

The 2025 event will run from 5-7 p.m. on November 6 in the RiverPark Center lobby. Approximately 275 tickets will be available this fall for $20 each. The ticket includes a handmade ceramic bowl created by local artists, students, and volunteers, along with a simple soup dinner provided by area restaurants, chefs, and churches. Last year’s event sold out, and organizers encourage early ticket purchases. Any remaining tickets will be sold at the door.

Last year’s event raised $21,000, which was split between Beverly’s Hearty Slice and Lourdes Backpack Ministry. In 2023, the event hit a record high of $34,000 raised. In its first year, the fundraiser brought in just $2,000.
