Audubon Area Community Services (AACS) and Habitat for Humanity of Owensboro-Daviess County on Tuesday partnered to improve energy efficiency and advance community development through a hands-on collaboration at the Carter Community Court subdivision.
AACS weatherization technicians conducted a full energy audit and weatherization evaluation on one of Habitat’s nearly completed homes. The effort provided mutual benefits: Habitat gained insights into construction techniques and energy performance, while AACS staff received real-world training in evaluating and improving home efficiency.
“This partnership is a powerful example of how collaboration can lead to stronger, more sustainable communities,” said Amanda Green, CEO of Habitat for Humanity Owensboro-Daviess County. “We’re grateful for Audubon Area Community Services’ support and excited to see the impact this will have on the families we serve.”
Trained inspectors assessed the home for areas of air leakage and heating and cooling loss. Based on their findings, future improvements may include sealing the exterior, adding insulation, repairing ductwork, or upgrading heating systems — all aimed at reducing utility costs for the eventual homeowners.
“This is a great opportunity to showcase how two mission-driven organizations can work together to improve lives and build a stronger Owensboro,” said Brandon Harley, CEO of Audubon Area Community Services. “We’re excited to support Habitat’s efforts while advancing our own goals of energy conservation and housing quality.”
