Carl “Bubby” Joseph Taylor, 62, of Owensboro, KY, passed away on August 7, 2025. He was born on August 26, 1962, to the late Elza Otis Taylor, Jr. and Mary Louisa (Loyd) Logsdon.
Bubby, a decorated U.S. Navy veteran, loyal UK basketball fan, and master of the backyard grill, lived life with warmth, humor, and fierce devotion to his family. His family knew him as a hamburger artiste who brought people together over good food and laughter. An animal lover at heart, he shared an unbreakable bond with his faithful dog, Macey. Whether cheering on his team, swapping stories from his service, or simply enjoying time with loved ones, Bubby’s presence was a source of joy, pride, and comfort to all who knew him.
Bubby proudly served his country as a dedicated Navy veteran, demonstrating exceptional skills, leadership, and professionalism throughout his military career. While stationed in Republic of Philippines, in 1984, the U.S. Naval Magazine in Subic Bay, Petty Officer Second Class Taylor distinguished himself as Assistant Air Launched Weapons Coordinator and Production Controller. During the absence of the Air Launched Missiles Coordinator, he assumed full responsibility for one of the most demanding ordnance billets overseas—overseeing operational movements, the recording and distribution of air-launched missiles and components and ensuring accurate daily stock reports to Commander Task Force 73. His outstanding performance earned him the U.S. Naval Magazine Commendation for sustained achievement and professionalism. From November 1983 to June 1984, his superior initiative and dedication contributed to the squadron earning a record-setting 893 out of 900 possible points during inspection, an accomplishment that led to his being awarded the Navy Achievement Medal by the Secretary of the Navy. In later service, as Leading Quality Assurance Petty Officer for Charlie Company in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, Mr. Taylor’s exemplary leadership and technical expertise were once again recognized—this time with the Army Commendation Medal for meritorious achievement. His steadfast devotion to duty and contributions to mission success reflected the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
Those left to cherish Bubby’s memory include his daughter, Brittney Taylor; his grandsons, Hunter and Hayden Collins; his siblings, Clara Mae and Charles Owen Taylor; his niece, Theresa Brant, and his nephews, Jermaine Dean, Chris Taylor, and Jeremy Taylor.
In addition to his parents, Bubby is preceded in death by the love of his life, DeeAnn Lee Christensen-Taylor and his sister-in-law, Linda Carol Taylor.
