In a pair of city-county matches to start the season, both Daviess County and Owensboro Catholic emerged on top.

Owensboro Catholic 8, Apollo 0

In their first game of the season, Allie Marston scored five goals to power the Lady Aces past Apollo 8-0. Annabelle Hancock scored twice and Scarlett Isenbarger added a goal, while Jenna Brey, Lila Helwig, Ireland Quinn, Hancock, Isenbarger, and Marston all recorded assists.

“The girls played amazingly tonight,” Owensboro Catholic head coach Meg Patton said. “They communicated, played great through balls, and had so much fun together. Our goalie Felicty Payne and our backline, which included Lila Helwig, Ellie O’Herron, Chloe Marson, and Bailey Quinn recorded their first shutout of the season. Everyone played with heart and the effort level was right where it needed to be. I am very proud of them.”

Daviess County 4, Owensboro 0

Mary Evelyn Wiman dished out two assists and had a goal to power the Lady Panthers to their first victory of the season in a 4-0 win over Owensboro. Sasha Foster and Mack Elliot both scored, while Hadley Morris added a goal and an assist. Kaelin Labhart and Delaney Maher both spent time in goal, combining for a shutout.

“I thought we possessed the ball well for a lot of the game,” Daviess County head coach Paige Crisp said. In the first half, our attack was kind of falling apart in the attacking third of the field. In the second half, we moved the ball a lot better and put ourselves in better positions to score goals. We saw a lot of good things, but still have plenty to work on moving forward. Our seniors led well tonight, but we also had a lot of freshmen and sophomores with very little varsity experience playing some key roles. I was pleased with the young players and how much more confident they were in the second half.”
