It was a high-scoring night for the local teams, as McLean County and Owensboro both cruised past their opponents.

McLean County 9, Butler County 1

Landry Humphrey scored a new school record seven goals and added an assist to power the Lady Cougars to a 9-1 win over Butler County. This marked the first time in program history that McLean County has started the season 2-0. Amelie Neal scored a goal, and Lily Miller added a goal and an assist, while Haley Louden recorded one save in goal. Hannah Smith and Avery Keown both finished with an assist.

“I am extremely proud of this group. They came into the preseason wanting to have a successful season, and two games in, they have already matched last year’s win total. We still have things to work on, but we are also further ahead in some areas than I thought we would be. Landry Humphrey breaking the school record for goals is a big accomplishment. It doesn’t matter who the opponent is, scoring that many goals is difficult with today’s eight-goal difference. We know it’s a long season, so we are going to enjoy the start we are having and build off it.

Owensboro 11, Breckinridge County 0

Ella Hall scored five goals and added two assists, and LP Early added two goals and an assist to help the Lady Devils shut out Breckinridge County 11-0. Lily Neiman added a goal and three assists, and Caroline Smith scored a goal, while Amelia Calhoun scored two goals and tallied four assists.

“It was another offensive game, although we focused on a specific style of attack, which worked,” Owensboro head coach Sarah Poole said. “Again, they followed the plan well. We are still playing around with our formation, so the girls are getting comfortable with a variety of positions.”
