A resident has died following an apartment fire late Thursday night, according to local officials.
A release from the City of Owensboro says that the Owensboro Fire Department was dispatched at 11:52 p.m. on August 28 to a four-plex apartment building in the 3900 block of Evergreen Drive. A neighbor had reported the fire, officials said.
According to the release, an Owensboro Police Department officer arrived before fire crews and found the apartment burning with a resident still inside. The officer entered the unit and brought the resident outside, where fire and EMS personnel immediately began treatment, the release says.
The resident was taken to Owensboro Health Regional Hospital and later transferred to a specialized burn care unit in Louisville, the release says. Officials confirmed the individual died on August 29.
Officials said that OFD Engine 3 arrived at 11:58 p.m., and crews launched an aggressive attack to extinguish the fire and prevent it from spreading to the other three units. The building was safely evacuated, and no other injuries or damage were reported.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Owensboro Fire Marshal’s Office.
