Firefighters from multiple departments responded Sunday evening to a structure fire in the 7800 block of Lyddane Bridge Road South in western Daviess County.
Assistant Daviess County Fire Chief Shaun Blandford said crews were dispatched shortly after 6 p.m. to find a 30-by-30 outbuilding fully engulfed in flames and beginning to spread to a nearby home.
“When firefighters arrived, the 30-by-30 outbuilding was fully involved and had collapsed on itself,” Blandford said. “The Bravo-Charlie corner of the residence was on fire with flames in the attic emitting from three or four eaves.”
He said firefighters made an aggressive interior attack, pulling the ceiling in a back bedroom to keep the fire from spreading through the rest of the home. He added that crews then shifted focus to extinguishing the outbuilding and knocking down hot spots in both structures.
Blandford said no injuries were reported. At least three people were inside the home at the time, and all evacuated safely along with pets.
The fire drew response from the St. Joseph, Moseleyville and Daviess County fire departments. A second alarm also brought assistance from the Airport-Sorgho Fire Department.
Crews remained on scene into the evening to perform overhaul operations.
