In a pair of 9th district games, Owensboro and Owensboro Catholic both emerged victorious.

Owensboro Catholic 1, Apollo 0

Mason Hardesty found Andrew Bailey for the lone goal of the game, and Jace Obermeier had two saves in goal in the Aces’ 1-0 win over Apollo. Apollo outshot the Aces 15-11, but only had two shots on goal compared to Owensboro Catholic’s four.

“I thought our boys were outstanding from start to finish,” Owensboro Catholic Head Coach Andy Donohoe said. “We showed real strength in the transitions and were well organized defensively. Apollo really made us earn it tonight. They never stopped going for it, and we had to keep coming up with solutions. Our boys have shown quality and resilience all season, and it was about getting over the line in a district game. That was a motivating factor this evening. Our boys knew it was going to be tough, but held no fear in showing their belief in what they could achieve if they got the performance right. And that’s exactly what they did.”

Owensboro 5, Daviess County 0

Peter Mbayo scored four goals and had an assist to lead the Red Devils past Daviess County 5-0. Jackson Sigler had two assists, and Brian Payne and Dax Garrison both had one, while Max Knoop also scored.

“We came out tonight with the mentality that we were already down 0-2,” Owensboro Head Coach Ryan Haley said. “Tonight, I was very proud of our guys, the way they defended together, plugging holes that were previously there in our first match. Everyone worked extremely hard to make the opposition have as few options as possible. We were able to hold their team to a low number of shots, most being from afar. Offensively, our guys attacked with a purpose, finding one another in space. I really liked how well Peter Mbayo, Denis Juma, and Jackson Sigler shared the ball during attacks. They opened things up and stretched the field very well. Overall, we are happy with the performance and looking to keep improving.”
