Three individuals and one community were honored with Regional Excellence Awards by the Green River Area Development District this week for leadership, service, and vision.
The awards were presented during GRADD’s annual leadership meeting.
- Charles Reid Regional Citizenship Award – Alma Randolph Crump
This award recognizes a citizen from the public or private sector who has played a major role in regional development efforts. For more than three decades, Randolph has been a pillar in the Green River community through the Alma Randolph Charitable Foundation. Since 1993, her annual Back-to-School Shopping event has provided clothing for more than 17,700 children, giving families dignity and confidence during one of the most financially stressful times of the year. - Texal Brooks Regional Leadership Award – Deneatra Henderson
This award recognizes a current or former GRADD Board or committee member who has demonstrated outstanding regional leadership. When devastating flooding struck McLean County in April, Hendrson and her team at the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet stepped in as true boots on the ground. Even as high water surrounded her own home, she made her way to McLean County, at times by boat, to support barricade efforts and aid response teams. - Wendell H. Ford Legislative Leadership Award – Webster County Judge-Executive Steve Henry
This award recognizes a local, state, or national elected official who has dedicated his/her life to working with legislative issues and services for the region’s citizens. Henry has spent decades advocating for Kentucky’s small communities through his legislative leadership. His work on water and sewer infrastructure, industrial development, and regional cooperation has left a lasting impact, helping position the Green River region for sustainable growth and economic opportunity. - Community of the Year Award – City of Sturgis
“Once on the brink of bankruptcy and dissolution, the City of Sturgis has staged a remarkable turnaround,” GRADD officials said. With new leadership, the city restored compliance with the Department of Local Government and secured more than $4 million in grants to improve water infrastructure, including major upgrades to its wastewater treatment plant.
“Each of these honorees represents the very best of our region — selfless service, strong leadership, and a commitment to improving the lives of others,” said GRADD Executive Director Joanna Shake. “Their contributions will continue to inspire positive change for years to come.”
