OPD: Man critically injured in overnight shooting

A man is in critical condition after being shot multiple times overnight, according to the Owensboro Police Department.

According to a release, OPD responded just before 1 a.m. on September 26 to reports of a shooting victim in the 900 block of Pennbrooke Avenue. Upon patrol officers’ arrival, bystanders directed officers to the location of the victim, the release says.

Authorities said that officers found the adult male victim to be unresponsive with multiple gunshot wounds. According to the release, officers immediately began life-saving measures and continued CPR until medical personnel from the Owensboro Fire Department and AMR arrived on scene to take over. The victim was transported to Owensboro Health Regional Hospital and remains in critical condition, officials said.

Detectives with the Criminal Investigations Division, alongside crime scene technicians from the Evidence Collection Unit, responded to the scene. Officials said several shell casings were recovered in a nearby parking lot and that several unoccupied vehicles had been struck by gunfire.
