Encore Musicals of Owensboro is presenting “Anne of Green Gables: The Musical,” this weekend, bringing L.M. Montgomery’s classic 1908 novel to the stage.

The musical, with a script by Donald Harron and music by Norman Campbell, tells the story of Anne Shirley, the red-haired orphan who arrives unexpectedly at Green Gables. Her enduring spirit of hope and search for belonging ultimately transform the community and find her a home filled with love.

The production emphasizes faithfulness to the original text, with every character drawn directly from Montgomery’s beloved classic.

Ronda Rodgers, director of “Anne of Green Gables,” said this production is unique in that it is performed in the round. Rodgers said lighting, sound, set, and costumes have all been intentionally developed to make this an immersive experience for the patrons.

“The audience surrounds the stage and the cast has worked hard to assure they can experience the story from every angle,” she said. “We hope they feel as if they are right there, walking the red roads of Prince Edward Island.”

Music direction for this show is by Candy Miller, and choreography is by Laura Staffeld.

The show will be performed at the Jack T. Wells Center, 3300 Frederica Street, this weekend only. Performances are scheduled for 7 p.m. today and 2 p.m. Sunday. Doors open 30 minutes before each show time.

Advance ticket purchase is recommended at encoreowensboro.com. If seats remain available, tickets may be purchased at the door.
