A 24-year-old Owensboro man has been charged with murder for a June shooting where one person died and another was injured, according to the Owensboro Police Department.
A previous release from OPD said officers responded shortly before midnight on June 29, 2025, to reports of a disturbance and gunfire in the 1800 block of Hughes Avenue. Upon arrival, police said they found two individuals suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.
According to OPD, a woman was located in the living room of the apartment with a gunshot wound to the chest. She was transported to Owensboro Health Regional Hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening, officials said at the time.
A male victim was found in a bedroom with a gunshot wound to the chest and was taken to OHRH, where he was later pronounced dead, according to police.
The initial release said that two individuals were still inside the apartment when officers arrived and were taken to the Owensboro Police Department for questioning, and that two firearms were recovered from the scene.
On July 1, the Daviess County Coroner’s Office identified the deceased as 30-year-old Joshua Hardison, of Owensboro. The other victim was identified as Hardison’s mother, 52-year-old Kelly Anderson.
Officials announced on September 30 that, following an investigation by OPD’s Criminal Investigations Division, Jonathan Brown was identified as a suspect. According to OPD, Brown was arrested on September 30 and charged with the following offenses:
- Murder
- Burglary, 1st Degree
- Wanton Endangerment, 1st Degree – Discharge of a Firearm
- Assault, 1st Degree
The investigation remains ongoing.
