Battling the greens at the Calvert City Country Club, Owensboro Catholic shot 328 and finished seventh at semi-state. McCracken County shot an impressive 287 to win the tournament, while Greenwood and Marshall County also both advanced after shooting 300 and 308.
“I’m never not going to be proud of this team,” Owensboro Catholic Head Coach Bretnea Harvey said. “Their grit allowed them to finish strong at Region to pull off the win, and it carried them through a much tougher day today when we struggled. We knew what it would take to make it beyond this first round and sometimes it’s just not there. That’s part of loving the game.”
Jace Merrit shot a team low 81 and tied for 36th in the individual, while John William Wathen and Tristan Logsdon both shot 82. Senior Estes rounded out the team’s top four scores with an 83, and Vince Hayden shot 85.
“My senior, Luke Estes, reminded us at Region that our team is made of imperfect men and they’re playing an imperfect game,” Harvey said. “Today was one of those imperfect days. But we enjoyed our last round as the team we were this season with Luke by our side. I’m so proud of the way they took on this season with a new coach and competed until the very end. It was definitely a bittersweet end.”
Daviess County’s Jaxson Unsel and Collin Reynolds competed as individuals, shooting 83 and 84. Hancock County’s Jaxon Blake tied for 41st in the individual, shooting 82, while Ethan Heavrin and Memphis Ball shot 89 and 93. Owensboro was represented by Colby Vanover, who shot 82.
