JR Sampson, 39, of Stanley, passed away on October 13, 2025, after a two-year battle with GBM brain cancer. He was born on December 18, 1985, to Roy Sampson, Sr and Martha Pate.
JR grew up working in tobacco and at the family business, Sampson Coal Co. and Trucking Co. He attended Holy Angels and graduated from Apollo High School in 2004. JR was a diesel mechanic who loved working, welding, and all types of trades. He was always willing to help others and will be remembered for his caring and loving nature.
JR is preceded in death by his sister, Sara Michelle Sampson, who passed away in 2010 at the age of 20 from pancreatic and liver cancer.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 9 years, Nichole Sampson, his son, Dusty Badgett, and his mom, Martha (Charlie) Pate.
The family will receive visitors on Thursday, October 16, 2025, from 10:00 am to Noon at Haley McGinnis Funeral Home & Crematory.
The family would like to thank all the doctors and staff at the Cancer Center who cared for JR throughout his journey. They would also like to extend their gratitude to Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Kentucky for their compassion and support, especially from Taylor and Samantha.
