Owensboro wasted no time seizing control Friday night, capitalizing on early turnovers and imposing its will in a 54-0 rout of Muhlenberg County.
The Red Devils kicked off to start the game and immediately flipped momentum when Muhlenberg fumbled on its second play. Tee Green recovered at the Mustang 18-yard line, and on the very next snap, quarterback DaMarcus Ganaway Jr. threw a screen to Ayden Fountain for a touchdown just 57 seconds into the game.
Muhlenberg’s drive was more promising but ended with a fumble inside the red zone. This time, Ty Ashley jumped on the loose ball for Owensboro. Ganaway made them pay again, breaking loose on a 34-yard touchdown scramble to make it 14-0 with 6:53 left in the first quarter.
After a defensive stop, Ganaway struck through the air once more, hitting Kingston Dillard on a 23-yard score with 15 seconds remaining in the opening period. Owensboro led 21-0 after one and never looked back.
The Red Devil defense was relentless all night. Landon Clark delivered multiple sacks, and Green came up with an interception that set up yet another score. Following Green’s pick, Ganaway connected with Jaileon Bryant down to the 3-yard line, and Eli Hampton powered in on the next play to push the lead to 28-0 with 4:18 left in the half.
Hampton added another touchdown minutes later — this time a 33-yard burst — sending Owensboro into halftime up 35-0.
The second half opened the same way the first ended. Ganaway ripped off a 30-yard scramble into Muhlenberg territory before Hampton finished the drive with a 30-yard score. The extra point was no good, but the lead grew to 41-0.
Clark notched his third sack of the night to force yet another Mustang punt, then Green scored on the first play of a drive from the Muhlenberg 44, making it 48-0 before the end of the third quarter. Green later added a final highlight — a 27-yard touchdown run with 6:05 remaining. The extra point was missed.
The Red Devils are now on a six-game winning streak since opening the season with back-to-back losses. They’ll hit the road next week to close out district play at Madisonville-North Hopkins.
