This is a paid release.

The General Evan Shelby Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) is proud to announce its participation in the Owensboro Museum of Fine Art’s 48th Annual Holiday Forest Festival of Trees. The chapter’s “Liberty Tree” will make its public debut during the Festival of Trees Gala on Saturday, November 8, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

The “Liberty Tree” honors the 103 ancestors of current General Evan Shelby Chapter members who contributed to the cause of American independence. Among these honored names are two women, a reflection of the vital, though often under-recognized, roles women played in the success of the American Revolution.

“The Liberty Tree is both a tribute and a teaching piece,” said Jean Owen, Regent of the General Evan Shelby Chapter. “It reminds us that freedom was won not only by those who fought on the battlefield but also by those who supported the cause through their homes, communities, and voices.”

The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution is a nonprofit, nonpolitical women’s service organization dedicated to historic preservation, education, and patriotism. The DAR recognizes not only soldiers of the American Revolution but also those who rendered service in civil capacities and provided other means of support: material, financial, or verbal. Acts such as paying taxes that funded the war effort, supplying food and clothing, and delivering patriotic speeches or sermons were all vital to America’s independence.

The Owensboro Museum of Fine Art’s Holiday Forest Festival of Trees is a beloved community tradition showcasing elaborately decorated trees and holiday displays from local organizations and artists. The event officially opens to the public following the November 8th Gala and runs throughout the holiday season. A special thank you to the wonderful ladies of the General Evan Shelby Chapter’s America 250 Committee who helped make this tree possible: Alana Ester, Jan Evans, Sue Berry, Rhonda Hartis Smith, and Patricia Mixson.
