James Henderson Smith, Sr., 82, of Owensboro, passed away on Thursday, November 6, 2025 at his son’s home in Hawesville, Kentucky. He was born September 6, 1943 in Daviess County to the late Jessie Smith and Mary Carr Smith. James was a member of the Owensboro Rifle Range Gun Club. He loved target shooting, playing golf and billiards, and fishing. But most of all, he loved spending time with family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five siblings.
He is survived by three sons, James Smith Jr. (Nancy), Eric Smith (Mary Ann), and Edwin “Deon” Smith; four grandchildren, Eric Smith Jr. (Ashton), Amanda Burns (Forrest), Trey Smith (Chelsea), and Brittany Ashton (Thomas); 11 great-grandchildren; a brother, Terry Smith; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, November 10, 2025 at James H. Davis Funeral Home and Crematory. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation is from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.
