Mary Jane "Janie" Douglas

Mary Jane “Janie” Douglas, 89, of Owensboro, passed away on Wednesday, November 12, 2025 at Signature Healthcare at Hillcrest. She was born February 24, 1936 in Louisville to the late Victor and Dessie Tilford Black. She graduated from Ahrens High School in Louisville. Janie retired from Daviess County Public Schools as a bookkeeper in the central office. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church. She began teaching children’s Sunday School and singing in the church choir as a teenager and continued for 45-50 years. Family was Janie’s greatest joy and happiness. They were her life.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Alene Miller and Dottie Black.

She is survived by her husband, Charlie Douglas; sons, Daniel (Amy) Douglas and David (Margaret) Douglas; four grandchildren, Kate, Connor, Bradley, and Mitchell; nieces, Carol Franklin and Bonnie Streble; and several great-nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 19, 2025 at First Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation is from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday at James H. Davis Funeral Home and from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday at the church.
