More than $8 million in unclaimed assets belonging to residents of Daviess County is being safeguarded by the Kentucky Treasury’s Division of Unclaimed Property, officials say. Here’s how to see if any of it is owed to you.
“These dollars can make a real difference for families and businesses. Checking takes only a moment—and the money belongs to you,” State Treasurer Mark H. Metcalf said in a release.
Metcalf said unclaimed property refers to financial assets left inactive for a period of time (typically three years), after which they are transferred to the Treasury for safekeeping. Examples include:
- Dormant bank accounts
- Unclaimed insurance policies
- Utility deposits
- Stocks and bonds
- Safe deposit box contents
You can search the Treasury’s online database at treasury.ky.gov to see if you are owed any unclaimed property.
