A new direct flight will be available from Owensboro to Charlotte, N.C., starting in February, and tickets are expected to go on sale this Monday.
The Owensboro-Daviess County Regional Airport (OWB) made the announcement Thursday morning during the Greater Owensboro Chamber of Commerce’s Rooster Booster event, held inside a MidAmerica Jet hangar.
Owensboro Times was able to independently confirm the details on Wednesday night after OWB posted a teaser graphic featuring a blurred skyline and a jet that resembled the Contour aircraft currently used for daily service to Chicago.
OT reviewed Contour’s destination map, where the Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) appeared as the most likely expansion hub for an Owensboro route. OT then matched the skyline in the image to Charlotte.
OT also examined the source code on Contour’s website and found an Owensboro-to-Charlotte route already embedded, with additional code referencing a first available flight date of Feb. 26. A direct search Wednesday night on the Countour site for flights on Feb. 26 confirmed it: a nonstop OWB-to-CLT trip align with a direct return flight, both with listed flight times of 1 hour and 45 minutes.
A Charlotte connection has long been part of OWB’s potential expansion roadmap. In early 2023, the airport board originally recommended jet service to Charlotte when endorsing Contour as the preferred Essential Air Service provider — a plan that later shifted to Chicago under the federal contract. The new Charlotte route now brings that initial vision full circle.
