On Saturday, Daviess County and Hancock County both won, while Trinity (Whitesville) fell short on the road.

Daviess County 64, George Rogers Clark 52

DeAaron Watkins exploded for 18 points and 23 rebounds in the Panthers’ 64-52 win over George Rogers Clark in the Mr. Basketball Classic. Watkins was named MVP of the game. Michael Acton scored 19 points and grabbed five rebounds, and Jonathan Moss finished with 19 points and four assists.

“We competed well. After a slow start, we stuck together and found a way to beat one of the best teams in the state,” Daviess County Head Coach Neil Hayden said. “I’m really proud of our guys for playing on a back-to-back and traveling over three hours to play tonight.”

Hancock County 78, Todd County Central 50

Keegan Wilson scored 21 points, and Seth Hunt recorded 15 points and seven rebounds in the Hornets’ 78-50 win over Todd County Central. Taylor Payne had a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds, Molan Maxwell added 10 points, and Jack Roberts finished with three points, six assists, and two steals.

“I thought we played steady with solid execution on both offense and defense,” Hancock County Head Coach Josh Roberts said. “Our intensity was great and most importantly we played together in unity with over 20 assists.”

Somerset Christian School 63, Trinity (Whitesville) 47

In the semi-finals of the KCAC Boys Tournament, Ian Roby scored a team-high 17 points, and Harrison Barnett added 10 points in the Raiders’ 63-47 loss to Somerset Christian School. Cale Boarman scored five of his eight points in the first quarter, and Grant Howard, Mason Smith, and Thomas Payne rounded out the team’s scoring.

“I thought we had a good game plan going into the game that we executed pretty well,” Trinity (Whitesville) Head Coach Nathan West said. “We held their shooter, who is one of the best shooters in the state, to only three points, but Harvey was able to hurt us with his size and athleticism. It was a good tournament for us and a great bonding experience as a team.”
