Boys’ basketball roundup: January 3

Owensboro Catholic and McLean County both advanced to the finals of the 3rd Region All A Tournament, while Apollo and Daviess County both won.

Apollo 81, Livingston Central 48

Carlos Cruz exploded for 20 points as the Eagles took care of Livingston Central 81-48. Tate Powers hit three threes to go along with his 15 points, and Landon Henning scored nine of his 13 points in the first quarter.

“This was a great win against a 6-3 Livingston Central team,” Apollo Head Coach Ryne Tinsley said. “They averaged 72 points per game, and they scored 48 tonight. We are playing better defense right now.”

Daviess County 72, McCracken County 62

The Panthers shot 11/19 from deep to take down McCracken County 72-62. Jonathan Moss led the way with 20 points, eight assists, and five rebounds, and DeAaron Watkins added 17 points and five rebounds. Davyn Randolph and Lemontae Ratcliff combined for seven threes, and Michael Acton had nine points, eight rebounds, and two assists.

Owensboro Catholic 63, Hanock County 42

Jake Murphy hit four threes to go along with his team-high 23 points to power the Aces past Hancock County 63-42 and advance to the 3rd Region All A Tournament final. Myles Grant was second on the team in scoring with 15 points, and Dre’Mail Carothers scored six of his 10 points in the second half.

For the Hornets, Keegan Wilson led the way with four threes and 18 points. Taylor Payne recorded eight points, and Nolan Maxwell had five points.

McLean County 66, Cloverport 21

The Cougars held Cloverport scoreless in the fourth quarter as they cruised to a 66-21 victory to advance to the 3rd Region All A Tournament final. Braxton Floyd and Will Gatton both had 12 points, and Camden Baird scored all eight of his points in the first half.
