Linda Cassady Gillis, 68, of Owensboro passed away January 11, 2026.
She was born on January 13, 1957, in Mt. Carmel, Illinois, to the late Donald Jerome and Winona Jean (LeSeure) Cassady.
Linda retired from Owensboro Public Schools after many years of dedicated service as a teacher in the EBD department, where her patience, compassion, and unwavering belief in her students made a lasting difference. She was loving, caring, and deeply compassionate, with a heart that seemed to have room for everyone. Linda enjoyed spending time babysitting her beloved grandson, Grant, getting lost in a good book, and was an avid solitaire player. She loved to laugh and had a natural way of mothering everyone around her, offering comfort, encouragement, and kindness to all who crossed her path.
Along with her parents, Linda is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Eugene Gillis Jr.; maternal grandparents, John Robert and Sarah (Lester) LeSeure; uncle and aunt, Keith and Carol LeSeure; and mother and father-in-law, Betty and Bob Gillis.
Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Erica (Blake) LaMar; grandson, Grant LaMar; siblings, Donna (Jeff McDonald) Neumann, Randy (Margaret) Cassady, Cindy (Michael) Head, Sandra (Karl) Neutz, Jim (June) Cassady, Corky (Kristen) Gillis, Nancy Gillis, and John (Susie) Cassady; and many, many beloved nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 1:30pm, on Friday, January 16, 2026, at Haley McGinnis Funeral Home & Crematory, with Pastor Evan Butler officiating. Visitation will take place on Friday, January 16, 2026, from 10:30am until time of service at the funeral home. Burial to follow the service at Owensboro Memorial Gardens.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of charitable donations made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 6704 Hagerstown, MD 21741. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Hartford House for the loving and compassionate care they provided Linda. Their kindness, dedication, and support brought comfort to both Linda and her family and will always be deeply appreciated.
