
Edwin “The Brownie Man” H. Stafford Jr., 92, of Owensboro, passed away on Monday, January 12, 2026 at the Heartford House. He was born on December 8, 1933 in Garnettsville, KY, which is now Ft. Knox, to the late Edwin Sr. and Ada Umensetter Stafford. Edwin was a United States Navy veteran. He was a member of the Ayer Flying Club and the EAA Experimental Aircraft association. He enjoyed building, repairing, and flying airplanes. He was also famously known around Owensboro as “The Brownie Man”. Over the last 30 years he made and gave away upwards of 20,000 brownies to people and businesses around town.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Diane Freuchtendicht Stafford; brother, Jerry Stafford; and sister, Margie Stafford.
Survivors include his sons; David Stafford (Debbie), Mark Stafford (Rebecca), and Dale Stafford (Amy); grandchildren, Shawn Stafford, Shelby Stafford, Shaydan Stafford, and Shelly Stafford; step-grandchildren, Cindy Prather, Tanya Rathore Price, Kristen Rathore Lawson, Jerry Brooker, and John Bess; step-great-grandchildren, Morgan, Bella, Ailie, Sam, Gracie, Brilie, and Mahalia.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 17, 2026 at James H. Davis Funeral Home & Crematory. Burial with military honors will follow the service at Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday at the funeral home.
