William Pogue is seeking election as Daviess County Property Valuation Administrator (PVA), bringing nearly three decades of real estate experience to the race along with a pledge to increase collaboration with the local real estate community.

“This January marks my 27th year being licensed in real estate,” Pogue said. “That experience centers around properties, assessments, values, and pricing, so I feel confident I can do an effective job as PVA.”

Pogue is running as a Democrat and will not face a primary opponent. The general election is set for November.

After passing a required competency exam through the state revenue cabinet, Pogue said he felt the time was right to pursue the role. In addition to his real estate background, he also holds a master’s degree in business administration and previously worked in healthcare operations and practice management.

Pogue is currently a licensed realtor with MAPP Realty in Owensboro. He said his combined experience in real estate and office management makes him well-equipped to take on the responsibilities of the PVA office, which include producing accurate and fair property assessments, as well as managing staff and field operations.

“This office doesn’t come with a lot of bells and whistles,” he said. “It’s about doing the work — ensuring assessments are fair, accurate, and based on the best available information.”

One of Pogue’s goals, if elected, is to better integrate the insights of local realtors into the assessment process.

“There are about 300 realtors in Daviess County, and they’re in these homes every day,” he said. “I’d like to build stronger working relationships and use their on-the-ground information to help improve the accuracy of assessments.”

Pogue said he plans to take a hands-on approach and be visible in the office and in the field. If elected, his term would begin in December, just ahead of the annual certification of property rolls in January.

“This will be a full-time endeavor,” he said. “I’ll be accessible to the public and ready to hit the ground running.”

Born in Chicago, Pogue has lived in the Owensboro area nearly all his life. He grew up in Pleasant Ridge, attended local Catholic schools, and holds degrees from Owensboro Community College, Western Kentucky University, and the University of Southern Indiana.

He said giving voters options at the ballot box is a fundamental part of democracy.

“I think elections are about choices,” he said. “I’m proud to offer myself as a candidate so people can decide whether they want change or to stay the course.”
