Carl Jesse Martin, 78, of Owensboro passed away on Monday, February 9, 2026 at the Heartford House. He was born on February 26, 1947 to the late Jesse and Christine Martin. He was of the Baptist faith. Carl served in the United States Air Force. After his military service, he and his wife of 49 years, Nellie, made a home in Owensboro with their son Jason. Carl worked at Alcoa as an electrician until his retirement. Carl enjoyed watching old Clint Eastwood movies and spending time with family. Carl was generous to those who knew him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Nellie Payton Martin; son, Jason Martin; brothers, Gary Martin and Jeff Martin; sister, Donna Kaye Clater; brother-in-law, Rex Payton; sisters-in-law, Betty Payton Sandefur and Linda Payton Cecil.
Survivors include his sister, Ann Back (Bobby) of Burlington, North Carolina; brother, Mike Martin (Barbara) of Louisville, KY; sisters-in-law, Sue Martin and Shirley Hays; brothers-in-law, Wendell Sandefur, Al Cecil and James Hays; aunts, Carolyn and Beth; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00pm on Friday, February 13, 2026 at Cecil Funeral Home in Whitesville with Reverend Jeff Hays presiding. Burial will follow the service at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Pattyville. Visitation will be from 11:00am until the time of the service on Friday at the funeral home.
