The Owensboro Museum of Fine Art will host its Spring Break Free Art Camp from April 7-10, offering creative opportunities for children ages 6-15.
Sponsored by RiverValley Behavioral Health, the camp will feature two-hour sessions each day, with morning classes scheduled from 9-11 a.m. and afternoon sessions from 1-3 p.m.
“We love providing young artists with a space to explore their creativity during spring break,” said Rebecca Stoen, Director of Education. “These camps are designed to be engaging, educational, and, most importantly, fun.”
The camp begins on April 7 with Creative Typography, where participants will use markers, crayons, watercolors, and colored pencils to transform their names into graffiti-style designs while learning about color, line, and personal expression.
Wednesday’s session, Sculpt It!, will introduce children to basic sculpting techniques through a hands-on foam sculpture project using floral foam and paint.
On Thursday, Imagined Imagery will encourage campers to illustrate a world that feels calm, happy, or inspiring, using a variety of materials and techniques to create layered artworks.
The final day, Artsy Alphabet, will focus on mixed media, allowing children to create personalized initial artworks using beads, buttons, tissue paper, yarn, magazine cutouts, and other materials.
“Our goal is to help children experiment with different artistic styles and materials,” Stoen said. “We want every participant to leave feeling inspired and confident in their creativity.”
Spots for the free camp are limited, and reservations are required. Children may register for up to two sessions per camp. To reserve a spot, contact the museum at 270-685-3181, email [email protected], or visit the museum’s Facebook page for the registration link.
The Owensboro Museum of Fine Art, the largest fine art museum in Western Kentucky, is free and open to the public. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Friday from noon to 5 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 1-4 p.m.
