Motorists traveling on Wendell H. Ford Expressway, commonly referred to as the US 60 Bypass, should expect delays today as crews work to repair damage caused by an underground utility fire.
According to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, the right lane of eastbound U.S. 60 near the 12.6-mile point, along with part of the on-ramp from Carter Road (KY 2698), will be blocked for approximately six hours. Owensboro Municipal Utilities is conducting emergency repairs to underground utility infrastructure damaged by the fire.
Traffic will be maintained through the work zone, but drivers should anticipate delays and consider alternate routes when possible.
Transportation officials are urging motorists to use caution, reduce speeds, and remain alert for crews and equipment in the area.
Crews hope to complete the work by 4:30 p.m. If repairs are not finished today, OMU is expected to return tomorrow after morning school bus routes are completed.
