A collision on Frederica Street near Fulton Drive resulted in one fatality and left another pedestrian critically injured, according to the Owensboro Police Department.
In a statement, OPD said officers responded to a hit-and-run injury collision on Frederica Street near the intersection of Fulton Drive.
According to the OPD, the vehicle involved has returned to the scene, and the driver is in custody.
Police said two pedestrians were struck. One person was pronounced dead at the scene. The second pedestrian was transported to Owensboro Health Regional Hospital in critical condition.
OPD said the Accident Reconstruction Unit and the Daviess County Coroner’s Office are on scene.
Northbound and southbound lanes of Frederica Street at Fulton Drive are closed while the collision is being investigated. Officers anticipate the lane closure will last approximately 2 to 3 hours.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area and watch for updates.
