Delbert Ray Lacefield

Delbert Ray Lacefield, a man known for his humor and generous spirit, passed peacefully on February 20, 2026, at Owensboro Health Regional hospital, with his sister by his side. Born on October 16, 1948, to Russell and Pauline Lacefield, Delbert was 77 years old.

A proud military veteran, Delbert lived his life with a distinct sense of humor that endeared him to everyone he met. He was a character in the best sense of the word. If you sat down with him in one of his favorite diners or at a family gathering, you were guaranteed to hear a story worth remembering, often sprinkled in with his latest conspiracy theories and alternate word pronunciations.

Delbert was employed at the Chrysler automotive plant in Belvidere, Il for over 30 years. He had a love for horse racing and slot machines and took countless trips to Las Vegas, in which he would return home with memorable souvenirs for family. While he wasn’t always a big winner, his most consistent wins were found in his relationships with family and friends. He was an incredibly thoughtful gift-giver who rarely missed a birthday. His family and friends could always count on receiving his post-cards and infamous update letters, which were filled with humor and personality. He was a devoted uncle who made it a priority to attend the events of his beloved nieces and nephews and for the most part, was a responsible babysitter.

Delbert was proceeded in death by his parents; Russell and Pauline Lacefield, younger brother Patrick Lacefield, and his beloved niece, Kerry Lacefield, who he followed in passing just ten days later. We take comfort in knowing they are reunited in heaven, baking, and fishing together.

Delbert leaves behind his elder siblings, sister Lana (Lacefield) Barney, brother Gary (Judy) Lacefield, an aunt, Nancy Hicks, and his beloved nieces and nephews; Todd (Natalie) Barney, Casey (Edie) Lacefield, Sara (James) Haag, and Laura (David) Block, great-nieces, great-great nieces, and a great-great nephew. Special friends include Robert Swope, Bill Swope, Ellie Cameron, Ed Hicks, and Ed & Cindy Pete.

A private family gathering to honor and celebrate Delbert’s memory will be held at a later date.

From his “old Kentucky home,” to his eternal home in heaven, “Uncle Delbert” will always be in our hearts.
