In the opening round of the 11th and 12th District Tournaments, Hancock County and Trinity (Whitesville) lost their respective games, bringing their seasons to an end.
Meade County 78, Hancock County 55
Trailing early, the Lady Hornets cut the deficit to three points, but were unable to fully recover as they fell to Meade County in the first round of the 11th District Tournament. Carolina Jones Hancock County with 21 points, and Ansley House and Madyson Higdon both finished with 12 points. For Jones and House, they both eclipsed the 1,000-point mark.
“I thought our girls battled last night,” Hancock County Head Coach Lisa Banta said. “The game was indicative of the season. Our girls always worked hard, but seemed to have unproductive spurts that hurt us. I’m very proud of their effort this year, and I am excited about the future of Lady Hornet basketball.
Edmonson County 66, Trinity (Whitesville) 49
Ry’Lynne Meserve scored nine of her team-high 17 points in the second half, as the Lady Raiders lost to Edmonson County 66-49 in the 12th District Tournament. Preslee Meserve scored all 11 of her points in the first half, while Sophie Hatfield hit a pair of threes to go with her eight points.
“I thought the girls came out and carried out the game plan,” Trinity (Whitesville) Head Coach Emily Hernandez said. “I thought when we tied it up in the third, we may push forward, but they responded and made another run at us.”
Ry’Lynne Meserve and Preslee Meserve were both named to the 12th District All-Season Team, Jayda Meserve was named to the All-Academic Team, and Hatfield was named to the 12th District All-Tournament Team.
“The girls worked hard all year and continued to improve all season,” Hernandez said. “As a coach, you can’t ask for much more than that. These girls play with heart and dedication, and I am proud to coach them.”
