James Robert Baird, 79, of Henderson, formally of Glenville, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Sunday, March 1, 2026. JR was born on April 24, 1946 to the late Glover and Florence Lee Baird. With heavy hearts and grateful spirits for a life well lived, we are saddened by the passing of a loving Christian man whose faith, humor, and steady presence shaped the lives of all who knew him.
A proud Vietnam veteran, he served his country with honor and carried that same quiet strength throughout his life. He worked the majority of his years at Miles Farm Supply, where his knowledge, work ethic, and friendly nature made a lasting impression on coworkers and customers alike.
He was a devoted member of Glenville Baptist Church, where he faithfully served as a former deacon and Sunday school teacher. His love for God was evident in the way he lived — always willing to lend a hand, offer wisdom, or share a kind word. He helped others whenever he could and never expected anything in return.
He was truly a jack of all trades. There was little he didn’t know a little about — whether it was farming, gardening, tending to horses, or working on and restoring cars. With the help of family and friends, he built his home where he lived for the majority of his adult life on the Baird family farm, a place filled with laughter, love, and countless memories.
He loved a good joke, cheering on the Kentucky Wildcats, good dogs, hunting, fishing and most of all, spending time with his family. His sense of humor and storytelling will be deeply missed.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 41 years, Judy Ann Baird; and his brother, Jerry C. Baird.
JR is survived by his wife, Marsha Baird and was greatly loved beyond measure by his children, Robert Baird (Tiffany) and Carolee Bowlds (DJ); his grandchildren, Logan Bowlds (Nina), Ansley Bowlds (Skylar), Avery Bowlds, Bobbi Ann Baird, Sebastien Ellard, who he raised as his own,and his recently welcomed great-grandchildren, Oliver Bowlds and Baylor McDaniel.
He will be forever missed but never forgotten.
At his request, there will be no formal services. A celebration of his life will be held at a future time.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to all who reached out, visited, prayed, and cared for him over the past year. Your love and kindness will always be remembered.
