After working for their father, Dan Turley, at Daviess County Farm Bureau for many years and recently helping small businesses with organization and bookkeeping, sisters Danette Mattingly and Rebekah Turley have opened Midwest Insurance Advisors. The new independent agency will offer commercial, personal, health, and life insurance options.

Five years after their dad’s passing, they began offering various bookkeeping services to ag producers and small business owners in 2021. They combined those efforts with their intensive insurance knowledge to grow their operations and open Midwest at 5341 Frederica Street.

“Just like our dad, we want to make sure people are taken care of and have what they need,” Mattingly said. “After bookkeeping and assisting several businesses, we realized people needed help. It was a natural expansion of what we already had going on.”

Midwest Insurance Advisors will specialize in commercial policies for small businesses and small group and individual health and life insurance. They also assist with open enrollment for Medicare supplements and offer personal lines for home, auto, and recreational.

“We have several providers we can quote your business with and over 50 different life insurance providers,” she said. “With several choices, we can send your information to several carriers to see offers the best price and coverage.”

Mattingly and Turley opened the business in a white farmhouse just south of Cracker Barrel, a building that’s been in their family for many years. And while the sisters love the easy access and prominent location, they’re more than willing to meet folks where they are.

“It’s a good location with lots of traffic and easy to get to, but we’re always trying to accommodate everyone’s busy schedules,” Mattingly said. “We can easily go to a business to collect information and provide quotes.”

Despite their vast knowledge and desire to help others, Mattingly said opening the business has presented its fair share of challenges. She said she and Turley remained persistent, adamant about living up to their father’s legacy in the community.

“It’s one of the most difficult things I’ve ever done, getting everything together and up and running,” she said. “Our dad had a gift for ensuring people were cared for, and we want to do the same. We want to help people where we feel comfortable helping people, and that’s with insurance.”
