Filming is underway in Owensboro for “Bachelor Santa,” a holiday movie produced by Goldenrod Film and Television. The production has created a buzz in the community, with local talent and businesses stepping up to support the project while showcasing Owensboro’s potential as a film destination.

The movie, which tells the story of a single mother, her Christmas-loving daughter, and the son of Santa Claus, is slated for release in December 2025. Producers aim to secure distribution through Lifetime or Hallmark.

The production has drawn praise from cast and crew for the hospitality and enthusiasm of the Owensboro community. Shena Fields, the film’s production designer, said the energy and artistry of the area have been key to the project’s success.

“The town has really rallied around us,” Fields said. “There’s a natural artistry here, and people have been so helpful and open. It’s an honor to showcase the talent in this area and see the excitement as people get involved in something they might have only dreamed about.”

That excitement has translated into opportunities for local bakers including Aleah Johnson and Angie Ebelhar, who were selected to participate in the film’s Christmas cookie-baking competition scene. Johnson, who works at Becca Bakes, said the experience has been a dream come true.

“Growing up, I always wanted to be a singer, actress, and baker,” Johnson said. “Now, I get to be an actress and share my baking on screen. It’s been a great experience.”

Ebelhar, who runs Hilltop Treats, a home bakery, crafted a 3D cookie sculpture for one of the lead characters and even appears in the film as a baking competition judge.

“I never imagined I’d have the chance to be on camera,” Ebelhar said. “It’s been so much fun to be part of this and see how everything comes together.”

The Kentucky Entertainment Incentive (KEI) program has played a significant role in attracting film productions such as “Bachelor Santa” to the state. The program provides tax refunds for productions that use Kentucky vendors, crew, and lodging, making it an appealing option for filmmakers.

Katie Smith, Deputy Secretary of Team Kentucky’s Cabinet for Economic Development, said it has been rewarding to see the incentive program in action.

“It’s amazing to see all the local vendors and talent being showcased,” Smith said. “We hope this will lead to more productions coming here, bringing permanent facilities, jobs, and year-round opportunities for crews.”

For lead actors Grace Patterson and Ella Cannon, filming in Owensboro has been a highlight of the production. Patterson, who has starred in numerous Lifetime films, praised the warmth of the community and the unique experience of filming in such an inviting environment.

“Everyone has been so lovely and accommodating,” Patterson said. “I’ve had a great time here. It’s been wonderful to meet so many of the locals who are so excited to be part of this. Their energy really makes the experience so much more special.”

Cannon, who plays the film’s lead character, shared how Owensboro has exceeded her expectations with its charm and enthusiastic support from residents.

“Everyone has been so kind and welcoming,” Cannon said. “It’s blown my mind how open-armed this community has been. From the moment we arrived, you could feel the pride they have in their city and how much they want this film to succeed. It’s been such a joy to be part of it all.”

Producers Kristi Kilday and Jeremy Winton expressed their gratitude to the local businesses and city officials who have supported the production.

“The hospitality we’ve received from the community has been incredible,” Kilday said. “We are especially thankful for the Hampton Inn, Holiday Inn, Owensboro Convention Center, Cupola Club, and the City of Owensboro. Their support has been instrumental in making this production run smoothly.”

Goldenrod Film and Television plans to host an early premiere of “Bachelor Santa” in Owensboro before its nationwide release. Producers also hinted at long-term plans to continue filming in the area, citing the welcoming atmosphere and support from city officials.

“There’s something really special about Owensboro,” Kilday said. “We feel so welcome here and can’t wait to share more about our future projects.”

“Bachelor Santa” marks Goldenrod’s latest step in expanding its presence in Owensboro, where the company previously filmed part of “The Christmas Pitch.”

As filming continues, local businesses and residents are embracing their moment in the spotlight, eager to see their city shine on the national stage.
