The short-form drama Fashion Icon is currently filming at the Kentucky Sound Stage in Owensboro, and producers are seeking background actors to help bring the vertical series to life. Filming runs through June 13.

Those interested in participating should email [email protected] with their name, age, availability, and a headshot. Extras will be contacted with specific wardrobe instructions and are asked to arrive in full hair and makeup.

The series follows a young fashion designer named Dani as she navigates sabotage from a rival colleague.

“It’s kind of just her story — how she takes that hardship and continues doing what she wants to do,” said Skyler Slaughter, a production assistant on set.

Slaughter said Fashion Icon is designed as a vertical film — a format popularized on platforms like TikTok and the ReelShort app. The series will consist of roughly 54–56 episodes, each about 2 minutes long and packed with telenovela-style drama.

The team is primarily looking for young adults between the ages of 17 and mid-30s to fill various scenes.

“Background adds so much to a film or TV show,” Slaughter said. “We want it to feel like we’re actually in a living city.”

Slaughter works with Kristi Kilday, co-owner of the Kentucky Sound Stage, and said this project is part of a growing push to produce more content locally.

“It’s really cool that we’re able to do this right here in Owensboro,” she said.

Most scenes are being shot entirely on-site at the state-of-the-art sound stage. One major scene required more than 20 extras to help transform the space into a bustling setting.

“This is something we want the Owensboro community to feel like they can be a part of,” Slaughter said.
