This is a paid story.

Owensboro Psychiatric Group recently opened and has begun seeing adult patients, offering psychiatric care under the direction of Dr. Rhine Nahid Hejran, a U.S. Army veteran and board-certified psychiatrist.

Owensboro Psychiatric Group began quietly seeing patients in early May and is gradually expanding its services.

“I noticed there is a big need for psychiatrists in Owensboro, but unfortunately, there was an extreme shortage — and it still is,” Hejran said. “It was my plan to someday open a practice here to help the community.”

Hejran brings decades of experience to the new practice. She earned her medical certification through the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates and completed her residency at Creedmoor Psychiatric Center in Queens Village, New York. She also served as a post-doctoral residency fellow in psychiatry at Columbia University’s College of Physicians and Surgeons.

Before moving to Kentucky, Hejran served eight years of active duty as a U.S. Army psychiatrist, attaining the rank of major. She was recognized with the Army Commendation Medal for exceptionally meritorious service supporting coalition forces during Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan.

“The things I saw there, people cannot imagine. It was hard, but I enjoyed being there for the soldiers and helping them,” she said.

Locally, Hejran has worked at Owensboro Health and continues to serve patients through the VA Clinic. She plans to gradually expand Owensboro Psychiatric Group into a full-time practice offering comprehensive care.

The clinic currently treats adults 18 and older for a range of psychiatric conditions, including mood and anxiety disorders, psychotic disorders, ADHD, OCD, eating disorders, and depression. Services include medication management, with plans to add multiple therapists and primary care providers, allowing patients to receive coordinated care under one roof.

Chief Financial Officer Hamed Hejran said the practice is committed to fostering strong patient-provider relationships through in-person care.

“It is important for patients and their psychiatrist to establish an alliance. This can only happen during in-person meetings with their psychiatrist,” Hamed said. “We at Owensboro Psychiatric Group understand this critical aspect of the practice and emphasize in-person visits. There are telehealth services available in Owensboro, but not many in-person options. A doctor-patient alliance is the foundation for treatment because patients with a strong alliance with their provider are more compliant with the treatment.”

Residents can learn more or request an appointment at www.owensboropsychiatricgroup.com. Social media pages on Facebook and Instagram are expected to launch soon.

“I want to live here and have my practice here, hoping to be able to help the community,” Hejran said.
