Fireworks in the Park will return to Whitesville Community Park on June 27, marking the 17th year of the city’s signature summer celebration. The free, family-friendly event begins at 5 p.m. and will feature food vendors, live music, and a fireworks show to close out the evening.

The fireworks display will begin shortly after dusk. Attendees are encouraged to arrive early and bring lawn chairs.

Mayor Patsy Mayfield said the annual tradition is one of her favorite nights of the year, and she’s thankful to the many community members who help make it possible.

“This is the 17th year for Fireworks in the Park, and every year it continues to grow,” Mayfield said. “It’s such a success because the community pours so much into it — everyone enjoys coming out.”

This year’s event includes performances by a bluegrass band and another musical act, adding even more entertainment to the evening. Local schools will also have concession booths set up, selling food and drinks as part of their fundraising efforts.

The city will coordinate the event, but Mayfield emphasized that it wouldn’t be possible without the support of local organizations and volunteers.

“This is truly a community event,” she said. “It’s become something people look forward to each summer — it brings families together and gives us a chance to showcase our park and our people.”
