You can get a behind-the-scenes look at the region’s film and television production facility this Saturday, as the Kentucky Sound Stage and the West Kentucky Film Commission are inviting the public to an open house.
The event will run from 12-3 p.m. at 5333 Frederica Street and is open to everyone from aspiring filmmakers and content creators to curious community members and local businesses.
Jeremy Winton, who owns and operates the sound stage with Kristi Kilday, said the event is designed to be hands-on and immersive.
“Whether you’re curious about filmmaking, wanting to learn about careers in the industry, or a local business looking to expand your marketing presence, this open house is for you,” Winton said.
Attendees will tour fully dressed standing sets and experience an LED wall in action. Winton said the same cutting-edge virtual production technology is used in major productions like The Mandalorian. The event will also highlight sound, lighting, and camera gear used in professional film sets.
“We’ll have industry pros there to tell you how you can get involved, whether it’s in front of or behind the camera,” Winton said.
He noted that the facility has already hosted a variety of projects, from commercials and branded content to full episodic series and feature films. One of their biggest successes is Bachelor Santa, which was filmed in Owensboro earlier this year and is slated for a theatrical release on December 5 in theaters across Kentucky, Indiana, Missouri, and Ohio.
“That movie turned out even better than I could imagine — it’s something really special,” Winton said. “It’s huge for us and huge for Kentucky.”
Winton said the studio regularly partners with both national brands and local businesses to produce high-quality, cinematic marketing content at a fraction of the traditional cost.
“If you’re an influencer, podcaster, business owner, anyone with a creative vision, we’re here to help make it happen,” he said. “We’ve even helped Kentuckians with just an idea get their projects sold to national production companies.”
More than just a tour, he said, the open house is meant to inspire connections and open doors to a growing film and TV industry in Western Kentucky.
“This is your invitation to connect, explore, and get involved,” Winton said.
