Get ready to grab a slice of history. Owensboro Times Pizza Week is firing up September 19-28, bringing a full 10 days of cheesy, saucy, and downright creative pizza fun to the community. Here’s everything to know so far.

The goal is twofold. We’re aiming to showcase the culinary creativity of local establishments and to give the community a new way to engage with its restaurants.

“Pizza Week is about way more than eating amazing pizza. It’s about showing up for our local restaurants,” said Christy Chaney, co-owner of Owensboro Times and an event organizer. “Tip the staff like you mean it. Snap all the food pics, because everyone knows the camera eats first.  And share it everywhere. These businesses are serving our community, fueling our economy, and feeding our bellies. And for the love of pepperoni, don’t complain about the wait!”

What’s the big idea?

This isn’t about your usual pepperoni pizza. It’s about pushing the limits of what a pizza can be, while giving you a fun excuse to eat local all week long.

Participating restaurants across Owensboro will craft one-of-a-kind pizza creations just for Pizza Week. That means something totally new for a limited time only. Traditional and non-traditional (calzones, pizza bagels, etc.) entries will be allowed.

Diners will then be able to taste, compare, and cast votes through a dedicated Owensboro Times online portal.

Each entry will be sold at a uniform price, creating a level playing field.

Who’s participating?

We’re keeping this ingredient a secret for now, but don’t worry — we’ll be announcing that soon! Businesses have until September 3 to sign up, so go encourage your favorite place to join. If your business is interested in participating, email [email protected].

Awarding the best

At the end of the week, champions in these categories will rise from the oven:

  • The Supreme (selected through a blind tasting by a panel of foodies, chefs, and more)
  • The People’s Slice (best traditional pizza, chosen by community vote)
  • Outside the Pizza Box Award (most creative non-traditional entry, chosen by community vote)
  • The Dough$ Maker Award (highest sales during Pizza Week)

How to get a pizza the action

From September 19-28, order the special Pizza Week creation at participating restaurants. Scan the QR code at each location or visit owensborotimes.com/pizzaweek to vote for your favorites.

OT will serve up daily coverage, behind-the-scenes videos, sneak peeks, and interactive polls (yes, including the age-old “does pineapple belong on pizza?” debate).

The (unofficial) house rules

Every good pizza party comes with a few ground rules. Think of them as the toppings that make Owensboro Times Pizza Week even better. While not official, we highly encourage all Pizza Week diners to follow these five simple steps:

  1. Be kind. We want good vibes only.
  2. Tip your servers, because they’re the real MVPs.
  3. Order extra food, because pizza never travels alone.
  4. Post on social media, and be sure to show off those slices with #OTPizzaWeek.
  5. Vote! Every slice deserves your say.

Save the date

Mark your calendars for September 19-28. More details, including the full lineup of restaurants and sponsors, will be announced soon.

Until then, sharpen your appetite. Pizza Week is coming hot and fresh out of the oven.
