The Kentucky Interscholastic Cycling League (KICL) will kick off its 2025 youth mountain biking season with the Rumble at Rudy Mine, scheduled for August 23–24 at Rudy Mine Trails in Ben Hawes Park.
The event will feature student-athletes from across the state, competing in divisions from 5th grade to varsity. Races begin at 9 a.m. on August 24, and spectators are encouraged to attend the free event.
“This is one of the most rider-loved trails in our league,” said a KICL representative. “The energy at Rudy is electric. Whether it’s a racer’s first start line or their final season, it’s a venue that brings out the best in our student-athletes.”
The Rudy Mine Trails offer a blend of wooded single-track, short climbs, and flowing descents — a course design that organizers say showcases the best of Kentucky mountain biking. Riders will start in a meadow before diving into the forest for classic single-track terrain.
Dave Kirk with Visit Owensboro said the city is proud to host the season opener again.
“This returning customer is a testament to the hard work put in by our local mountain biking team’s recruitment efforts and, of course, the relentless work that our Owensboro parks and recreation teams put in every day to make our parks some of the best in the commonwealth. We look forward to welcoming these athletes and their families back to our community,” Kirk said.
The event is hosted in partnership with the City of Owensboro, Visit Owensboro, Owensboro Parks and Recreation, and the local Rudy Mine Trail Riders team.
KICL is part of the National Interscholastic Cycling Association (NICA), which promotes youth development through cycling. The league serves students in grades 5 through 12.
