Kentucky Sound Stage is opening its doors to community creativity with two new opportunities this fall: a casting call for a comedy improv troupe and a contest to turn one original show idea into a professionally produced pilot.
The Stage to Screen Improv Group will bring together local performers to train, rehearse, and perform under the guidance of improv coach Christopher Lee Herod. Selected members will participate in weekly workshops and perform in live shows that will also be recorded for YouTube and streaming platforms.
“This is a chance to put together a group that practices, performs live, and gets real distribution,” said Jeremy Winton, who is helping lead the effort.
Submissions are open until November 1, with live audition workshops scheduled for November 8 at Kentucky Sound Stage.
The second opportunity, the Stage to Screen Pilot Contest, invites creators of all backgrounds to submit ideas for shows ranging from scripted dramas to podcasts or reality series. Finalists will pitch their ideas in person on November 8, and one winner will have their concept produced into a 10–20 minute pilot episode using the sound stage’s professional facilities.
“Anything goes — comedy, drama, unscripted. We want to see the range of talent here in Western Kentucky,” Winton said.
Winton said both projects are about more than producing content; they’re about spotlighting local creativity.
“We’ve seen a lot of amazing talent in Owensboro and Western Kentucky, and it’s time for the spotlight to be on them,” said Kristi Kilday.
Winners will gain access to the sound stage’s professional equipment and support staff, along with distribution opportunities.
“This is really about cultivating the talent that’s already here and making dreams come true,” Winton said.
Submissions for both the improv troupe and pilot contest are due November 1, with auditions and final pitches set for November 8. Applications can be sent to [email protected].
