Lizzie’s Diner will serve its final meals on October 3, owner Elizabeth Thompson announced this week, citing health reasons and a desire to spend more time with family.
“It has been my joy and pleasure to serve breakfast and lunch to this wonderful community. I have met, and become friends with, so many dear people,” Thompson said in the announcement made via Facebook.
Thompson said ongoing back issues have made it difficult to stay on her feet all day. She added that she is also looking forward to more time with her grandchildren and traveling with her husband.
“It’s just time for the next chapter,” she said.
Thompson also thanked her daughter and son-in-law, who she said “have been the heart and soul of Lizzie’s Diner,” as well as other family members who supported the restaurant over the past five years.
“My husband has been so supportive and sacrificing,” she said. “Now it’s time for me to be able to be a support to them.”
Thompson expressed gratitude to the diner’s many regular customers.
“You all mean so much to me,” she said. “You helped make my little dream a success.”
Lizzie’s Diner will remain open for the next two weeks before officially closing.
