After more than two decades in banking, Audrey Lillpop has made a career change that she said feels both natural and rewarding. She’s moving into the insurance industry as a producer with The Way Agency, an independent firm that recently expanded into Owensboro.

“I knew I was going to make a career change, and I was ready for a change from banking,” Lillpop said. “Nobody grows up and says they’re going to be a banker — it just kind of happens. But the experience I gained there has been extremely beneficial in making this transition.”

Lillpop, who grew up in Louisville and came to Owensboro to coach basketball and attend graduate school, said the community quickly became home. More than 22 years later, she and her family have deep roots. Her husband, Todd, has spent his life on the baseball field as the head coach at Kentucky Wesleyan, while her father-in-law, Garry, was a longtime fixture in the automotive industry.

“Our family is a team and we work together in everything we do,” Lillpop said. “My husband and boys are my biggest fans, and they support me. Owensboro is a great place to raise a family, and I’m so happy to call it home.”

The Way Agency has a staff of five and an intern from Kentucky Wesleyan College.

“We are independent, which means we can work with multiple carriers and match customers with the best products that provide the right coverage and pricing for them,” she said. “At the end of the day, insurance is about protecting the things that are most important to people. I want to make sure they truly understand what they’re paying for.”

Lillpop said she works with both personal and commercial clients and makes herself available to meet at local businesses, homes, or over coffee.

“I know people are busy, so I will come to you. We can use technology or sit down face to face — whatever works best,” she said.

She added that recent weather events across the region highlight the importance of being prepared and having the right coverage.

“Too often people find out after the fact that what they thought they had isn’t what they actually have,” Lillpop said. “I want to help people understand their coverage before that moment comes.”
